What Does a Medical Laboratory Technician Do?

The MLTs are given training about various diseases and their detection and also in operating electric and electronic lab equipment. Additionally, they are also taught and trained on how to maintain a patient record and monitor patient progress. Their various other responsibilities include:

  • Evaluating body fluids, sample extraction progress, and the analysis of the fluids.
  • Examining various tissues of the body, methods of sample acquisition and preparation, staining, and their microscopic examination.
  • Evaluation of different blood cells, and diagnosis of any changes or any pathology.
  • Perform Biochemistry tests to measure blood composition, hormones, enzymes, and drug levels.
  • Blood grouping, blood sampling, and cross-matching in case of need for blood transfusion in emergency and trauma.
  • Microbiological identification of various pathogens affecting the human body including all viruses, bacteria, and other pathogens which cause infections.

BSc MLT Course Eligibility Criteria

  • The basic eligibility criteria of the BSc MLT course is that the candidates should have qualified their 10+2 in the area of Science with mandatory subjects such as Mathematics, Physics, Chemistry and Biology.
  • The candidate should pass their 10+2 with a minimum aggregate of 50% or equivalent from the recognized education board.
